Summary: portrait of Ada E. Briggs first woman councillor, 1919-25

Identification note: exhibited at PEDAS exhibition 1922; text for display label, 'The artist of this portrait was Cllr Ada Briggs's sister and it was probably painted at her studio on Balmoral Road, Parkstone. Irlam Briggs is listed in the Dictionary of British Artists 1880-1940 as a 'portait, landscape and mural fresco painter and modeller'. She studied at the Wimbledon Art College and in Paris, and her work was exhibited at the Royal Academy.
